Baffled by this. All seems well under my Disco 2. All bushes etc seem in good order. Recent MOT with no advisories, and on the road runs and drives perfectly. However, went off road yesterday and I'm getting an occasional clunk/crack, which appears to be coming from the front end of the Landy.

This doesn't happen all the time, it's random, and seems to be no obvious way to make it happen.

I'm thinking it could be the drop links on the ARB. When at certain angles, the ACE is pushing on the ARB and the extra pressure is causing it to clunk. Is these feasible do you think?

As I say, can check under it, rock it, prod it, and nothing appears worn or loose. No clunks knocks or banks when driving on the road, even over bumps and potholes.

Any ideas much appreciated !

Thanks.

Drop links or ARB bushes would be my first port of call.
If they've not been changed for some time may need doing, they are cheap enough and easy enough to change.

I've always had a bit of a clunk from the front end of mine when going over speed humps and the like - for 7 years and 50,000 miles. Never worked out what it was, always passed MoT, local indy couldn't find anything so have just assumed it's a "feature".

Thankyou. Did rear drop links a little while back...had to get the angle grinder out for those! I will order a set and go from there. They look like they've been on there a while. Odd I get nothing on the road, but I guess it's just the extra strain on them when off road that's making it clunk/crack.

I have the same problem. Seems like a clunk which is random not always when I go over a bump.
Odd!!

Someone has said to me that this could be the UJ's on the propshaft. Apparently they can make a ping/crack under strain when the bearings are worn.

Anyone experienced this?

the best way is to get someone to rock the vehicle as much as possible whilst you hold various components ie roll bar ,shockers, radius arms etc
