Hello to everyone its nice to meet you all . My name is Nathan and I have recently bought a Freelander 2006 freestyle model for towing my 16ft fishing boat . After just 2 or 3 days of owning it I took it out towing the boat and realised that the clutch slipped when pulling her out of the water . After investigating I found that the intercooler hose had split and was leaking oil down through the engine bay , on occasion I had felt a lose of power and a bit of black smoke on a previous outing without the boat . My question is ' Will a split intercooler hose cause the clutch to slip ? I have now changed the hose and have full power back with no black smoke but I'm nervous to tow again without knowing if I'm gonna have problems or not . Is there a test I can do ?

I would think it unlikely that the split hose would cause the clutch to slip unless oil had somehow managed to get in the bell housing and contaminate the drive plate. Try pulling away with your foot on the brake, this is usually a good test. Does the clutch bite at the end of the pedal travel?

Hello Col , thanks for your help. Is the bell housing on the same side as the intercooler hose ? Is was a big split . As I open the bonnet the split pipe was on the front right of the engine on top 90° bend .
The clutch bites just before you take your foot off the clutch , right at the end .

You need to ask in the freelander forum not the introduction forum, it'll just get ignored in the main.
welcome to the asylum
as u look at the engine the gearbox is on the right hand side , wouldn't be the cause of ur clutch slipping , would also be worth checking the left hand intercooler hose
sounds to me like ur clutch is on it's way out
always a good idea on these td4 engines to fit
an egr blank
fit a modified crankcase breather, made by bmw
if u go over to the freelander section and do a search u will see what the other mods and servicing items are recommended
