Impact damage to gearbox bellhousing

I noticed this crack on the inside of the bellhousing on the gearbox I have had rebuilt.

See the 1/2" AF Spanner for scale. The crack is hard to see and very easily missed. The bellhousing has had a knock underneath at some time which has caused it. Is it anything to worry about or should I just leave it?

I'd leave it.......you could however clean it up with thinners to get rid of the oil and then cram it with chemical metal or JB, if not depending on how good the ally is you could potentially TIG or stick weld it, just needs a little dab so any decent welder should be able to patch it but it'll probably hold strong for another 50 years

+1 though personally I would welded it but only because I have access to a TIG. If leaving it I may drill a small hole at the ends of the cracks.
 
Thanks for the replies. I did consider cleaning the oil out of it and covering it with araldite.

I don't have access to TIG welding kit so that is out of the question.

Even if you managed to get the crack perfectly clean, you'd never work araldite right into the bottom of the crack.

How long has it been since the bellhousing was damaged/impacted???
 
It appears to have been there for a while looking at the underneath.

Looking at it, I don't think it does go all the way through.
 
Looks to me like something triee to get out rather than in? I would be more concerned about what caused it, but I think the small holes and chemical metal seems best as you cant get a TIG welder
