ive got a disco 2 that spends its time sitting at the moment waiting for a chassis so i turned the engine off, left key in ignition, disconnected battery, let it all die, then removed key and locked door manually. this has always worked as i always understood it wasnt immobilising this way.
except i went to start it yesterday same as always, unlock door, pop bonnet, shut door, connect battery, open door, get in and start,
but this time, key in ignition on, wont crank. then the alarm started going off after getting in and out and putting a jump pack on thinking battery was dead.
assumed it was immobilised now not dead battery so tried to lock and unlock but wouldnt work, key fob was working so assumed receiver unit. pulled interior light out and removed and the roof was saturated so its on the radiator to dry hoping it revives.

just want to check my thought process that the rf is the first thing to check?

sorry bit long winded but wanted to give all info ive got

What year is this bunch of bolts ?

I'd say it automatically immobilised when you woke it up by reconnecting the battery - so you should have locked with the fob and opened with the fob, as first action after reconnecting.
Mine sometimes ignores the remote fob... usually only after a frosty night.
My solution is to unlock and then lock with the key, wait a few seconds then try the fob again and then work as normal.
Don't open door if unlocked with the key, as this sets the alarm off.
Seems like it goes to sleep and needs to wake up.
I have no sunroofs so think my receiver unit should be ok, so have no reason to look yet.
There might be a technical / software answer but in the absence of an expert response, the above works for me.

Mines a no sunroof either, it condensates like hell on the inside of the roof and saturates it

Yes you’re probably right about my unlocking sequence though.
Going to put the receiver unit back in today and hope it unlocks

Ah, didn't think of condensation - maybe I should have a look after tonight's frost
I was shocked at how bad it gets above the headliner!

Easiest way is to pull out the interior light for the rear seats, then you can either reach in and undo the 6 nuts that hold the entire plastic piece into the headliner, or be an animal like me and just pry it off pulling the nuts through the headliner 😂

I'll have a look but my fingers are not as nimble or strong as they used to be, with arthritis hitting the joints :vb-groan2:
My headliner is starting to sag so I'll maybe remove the whole thing for a recovering in the summer and have a proper look then - I assume the earth connection will need a proper clean-up which would be tricky through the light hole...
