Hi all Im new here but thought my best chance would be with a bunch who know a lot more than myself and my local dealer about freelanders.

I am the owner of a 02 td4 freelander with just over 100,000 on the clock. All went well until the other day, when in the proccess of re-arranging the drive way so i could let my brother get his car off, my Hippo died.
started fine to begin with but i knocked it off to get out and move somthing else, when i came back to her all i got was click click click, so i thought batter dead and pushed her out of the way. Came to jump her next day no joy, click click click. Took battery and charged her up over night re fitted and she started, thought great job jobed and took her for a spin came home parked her up. Turned her off then back on just to see if all was good and she started again fine. Got out used key fo to set alarm and lock, then unlocked and tried it again. . . . click click click.
So i have looked at all the link and kick wires form stater to alternator and form battery to earth and everywhere else. Ive had the battery tested and she is good as is the starter moter.

Ok so here the questions lie, could it be the alternator charging system? could it be to do with the alarm or coudl it be that she is dead and should be mourned?

I have read other posts on here with the people complaining about similar things but most tend to be the power cables linking the components. I have also had regular visits form the 3 amigos as someone put it before this problem and now constant when the ignition is on. Also when i switch my ignition on the power form the battery is draining, suggesting a dodgy earth ????? and whilst im at it my driver window only works when it feels like it, i can hear the relay "click" for want of a better word, but no window down. could this be linked or just another problem?

Any and all help welcomed! sorry for the long rant, im sure somone out there has solved a problem like this!

Cheers!

Hi
I had the same thing on my TD4 and it turned out to be the spade connector to the solenoid was corroded inside it is fiddly to get to and i found the easiest was to remove the sump gaurd clean out the spade connector or replace it how corroded apply some vaseline and this cured the problem, the 3 amigos could be the brake light switch most common but if you do a search you will find a load of info on this the window is a case of removing door card and doing a check on wiring and also check and lubricate the mechanism and cables that operate it

Good luck

Gordon:)

Cheers Gordan. When I took it off to test the starter I cleaned her up and lubed it good and proper too, no go :(

If you happy that all connections in the circuit are OK then that leaves the internal contacts of the starter solenoid. It's a common failure and symptoms tend to be intermittent and sometimes improve with a charge up or a sharp tap on the solenoid body when experiencing the 'click'.
