Im back with a V8 !! a few Q's

Hi all,

Well I found my self a nice v8 with some off road extras and picked it up tonight.


Drove back fine apart from a couple of issues.

1. Pulled into my drive to find the power steering stopped working, to dark now to fully investigate.

2. slight grinding noise when let off the throttle then it goes away when I put the foot back on the trottle.

Its got a disco rear axle/diff i think

3. Its got a lift kit, but when I slow down it gives a little wiggle and feels unstable. Could this be rear trailing arm bushes?

Sat at 75 mph all the way back, bit of a step up from my guttless 200tdi.

Congratulations!.......Yep, as long as you stay away from deep water, all is fine with V8 power n sound!

A good service and look see underneath will probably help answer a couple of your own questions. However, yes, replacing bushes makes a world of difference, as does checking tyres,wheels and hubs thoroughly too.
The noise on lift off is more likely to be worn running gear, but check gearbox, diffs and transfer box. Drain n fill with fresh fluids.

Generally speaking, if replacing fluids, I can thoroughly recommend the Lucas Hub seal n gear oil additives, including ATF additive for your power steering system. The Lucas bottles are the only stuff that makes a difference and only stuff I bother with. Wont sort out knackered components, but will certainly help revitalise worn seals etc

On #3 - it could be bushes and or it could be a broken anchor point (i.e., where bushes sit) on that rear trailing arm - I had exact same problem and had to weld the anchor point up.

Hi Fendy,

on #2- check the balance of the Propshaft. I had the same problem- set about rebuilding the rear Diff to find out it was a prop put back on wrong.
