Hi All,

Need some help from those who know the L322 2002-2006 well. The solenoid on the ignition key barrel has given up the ghost in the cold weather. Basically the transponder coil recognises the key, unlocks the steering but fails to unlock the ignition barrel. Tried contact breaker etc but to no avail. Only thing that works is persistence and a hair drier. I only have one key and never bothered to get second order (to save £300)

Basically need a new ignition barrel. These are only sold from Land Rover cut to the current key for some stupid amount of cash.

Alternatively there is the option of a second hand barrel complete with two keys, and even a swap for the glove box and door lock barrels to match.

What I wanted to know was:
1. Can I just swap the solenoid bit at the back of the lock, allowing the key barrel and transponder coil to be retained?
2. If I have to swap the whole barrel, this has the advantage of gaining a second key. However, does this mean reprogramming the ECU to read the new transponder coil and importantly key. Someone told me I can just swap the whole thing without reprogramming the ECU at the recognition of the key is in the ignition barrel? Wanted to check this is right

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks
