Hi all
I just changed the wheels over on the car, I used the wheel choc and standard l/r Range Rover scissor jack..
Nothing wrong there..or so I thought.
Luckily the wheel was still on and not removed, although it was loosened
it was not high enough for the axle stand, so I continued to jack it up..then it crashed down..
The threaded bar had stripped its thread on the opposite end of the handle
absolutely buggered, luckily there was no part of me under or near it.
I assumed I could safely lift the car with the standard jack, there wasn't any damage and looked in very good condition.
I then got the 3 stage Mercedes sprinter hydraulic jack out, and finished off the job.
it wasn't in the car at that time,BUT it is now.

That's why the P38 has a hydraulic jack !! I'm sure my old Classic had one as well. The L322 was built by the accountants, hence why stuff breaks easily !!
hi there @pwood999
now i am learning more and more about the l322 as time passes,
i have often wondered why things on l322 have been done in such a way..
i have heard some say p38 was better, but i have not owned one of those..
that sprinter jack was a good buy.

hi there Col,
right up till it happened, i hadn't ever had a failure, and it felt so solid..
Not now though, lesson learnt.
Years ago I was nearly squashed under a mates mk3 Cortina which was held up on a scissor Jack whilst I tried to reattach his exhaust. I saw the Jack starting to go and managed to get out from under with half a second to spare. Recently, I watched my son's Corsa fall after he had removed a wheel to change it. He didn't follow any of my advice about using my trolly Jack or putting the removed wheel under the sill whilst putting the spare on. I think scissor jacks should be banned and them stupid side jacks aren't any better

hi there col
we need to start a movement to get the shyte jacks outlawed.!
re cortinas...I counted all the cars I've owned ...I'm at 47 already , and I'm not finished yet, if i like it, i buy it, the fact its cr@p doesn't put me off, ( Ive even owned rover 800, bloody nice car)
While i was an apprentice i bought a mk2 cortina 1600e... yumm yumm !
Jimmy Saville gold exterior Lenny enry black interior with lashings of sideboard
i sold that through Horley car auctions sussex back in the day, and then for the next few months i was getting letters from the London and surrounding area police saying my car is wanted for failure to stop, speeding and robbery, back then i was a hero having owned such a thing, common place now.
wish i still had that now, who would of thought what classic fords could bring now.

I know, I rue the day I flogged my mk1 lotus cortina for a couple of hundred quid, they are fetching serious money now, ditto my mk1 escort rs2000. Or the mk2 jag. I've had all the cortina's but the one I liked the least was the mk2, maybe I just had a bad un.

hi col,
i have already had 6 sd1s..and i want another for keeps this time, 800 was a cool car..and i had 3 rover p5bs..two coupes and a saloon.. Lovely but absolutely stupid money for a decent one.. and to be really honest i had a couple of jaguars xj40s.. Drove them on a classic policy and thought they were better at half the price.. i know they are much maligned but mine were great.. lovem

It was a bad mistake that I constantly regret. It wasn't in great condition to be honest and I sold it to get a TR6, which I also now regret selling. The thing is, I would have needed a warehouse to store all of the cars I now wish I'd kept. Recently, I worked out how much it would have cost to store my old escort from the mid 70's in a rented lockup and the total rent was a bit more than the current value of the car.

hi there col.
I have wondered from time to time about trying to import a ford or two from South Africa/Australia, I know the Paraná Capri went there with a tasty v8.
Back whilst I was an apprentice.. First car mini 850.. Second ford Capri 2.0s, myself and another apprentice removed our 2ltr engines ( his was escort ) and did a package deal from southern rebores , bored to 2.2ltr, decked block, reground crank, lighten balanced flywheel, uprated clutch n oil pump, then had heads polished n ported, i managed to squeeze an escort Mexico back box under it, then the crowning glory was a set of twin 44 idf downdraughts with k and n filters, it was the nuts, incredible sound induction and exhaust,it had injection pepper pots and lowered, in 1988 it was awesome..
