Identify that alternator?

So I'm looking at possibly upgrading the alternator on my S3 2.25 petrol at some stage in the future, and do a bit of googling. I'm led to believe that because my engine code is 361 (as identified on the log book) I will need an extra bracket like this:

LAND ROVER SERIES 1 2 3 ALTERNATOR BRACKET 2286 4 CYL PETROL DIESEL MOUNTING | eBay

to fit the upgraded alternator like this:

BRAND NEW ALTERNATOR 12V VOLT 75 AMPS LUCAS A127 STYLE JCB/MASSEY FERGUSON/PINTO | eBay

I went and had a look at the landie today and took a couple of pics. I think I already have this bracket, which means my alternator cant be standard either, or my engine isnt original.

Can anyone say if this is a standard alternator, and whether the bracket under all the oily gunge is the same as that which sold for a hundred quid (!!!!) on ebay, or are the two brackets different?

I'll have to clean up the alternator and see what ampage its putting out at some stage.

I believe that is a standard series Alternator bracket the reason they go for silly money on ebay is people want them to put a 200tdi into a series.
Might be that you need to turn the front of the alternative unit to get your adjuster in the right place normal one I believe is 16 or 17 ACR

Thanks chaps. Good to know I won't be stung another 100 quid plus to upgrade my alternator!

i would upgrade it to a 200tdi alternator the a127 its worth doing and you have a standard 16 acr by the looks of it with standard brackets but its easy enough to make some up i did with mine its not hard but mine was ex army 24 volt so i had to make them up rather than spend 100 quid

I think thats what I had planned. Are you saying the bracket I have is no good to fit an A127 alternator? I dont think I have the kit to be making up new brackets! :scratching_chin:

I understand that without the right bracket the alt sits about 6mm out of alignment and shreads belts. :(

I have a discovery alternator which I believe is the A127 fitted to the series bracket .
Albeit mine is on a 200tdi and needed spacers for that engine.
Yours should fit no problem. The front cover may need rotating to get the adjuster bracket in the same place as your current one this just needs the three long bolts removing and the end cap can be turned to the desired position.
