Can you tell me what this is?

Year?
Series?
engine?

Anything.

Hopefully this is my next project.

It's a Land Rover...

Looks like a Series III 109" Station Wagon - gonna need more that that pic for any more info though...

The Chassis number will tell you quite alot, and if you can't work out what the engine is post a pic and we'll tell ya :)

I notice that some have the intake vent on the passenger side front fender and some do not, just on the drivers side.
What Is the difference?

On a defender its the difference between a 200tdi and a 300tdi.

What does it mean on a series?

Heater intake on S111. 2a's and earlier had in cab heaters with no external intake. Could still be any engine.

Thanks.

Im hoping its a petrol 4 cyl.
If all goes well I may have it late tomorrow evening.
Had my eye on it for about 4 years, its just been sitting.
I stopped a couple years ago and had a look underneath and it didn't look too bad.

Assuming no paintwork has been done I would guess it's a pre 1981 as the bezels around the lights on post 1981 models were silver.

Looks like a nice potential project though. :)

OK, first problem.

I am in the Bahamas, on the Island Nassau.
The series is on a different island called Eleuthera, about a 4 hour boat ride.
This truck has not moved in at least 4 years.
The deal was made but yesterday when the seller went to tow it to the ferry it would not move. The wheels are frozen solid.
I still want it.
What shall I tell him to do so that he can tow it?

Thanks.

It will either be the road brakes stuck on - or quite likely the hand brake. Jack up each wheel in turn and see if it turns. If they all do it will be the handbrake. Chock wheels, then undo the four nuts holding the handbrake drum on - give it some persuasion with a big wooden or plastic mallet.

If its individual wheels then same as above and make sure the adjusters are wound out...

Thanks so much!

I will pass this on.

The previous owner may not be aware of the location of the handbrake drum, which is fitted to the rear of the gearbox.

Good news!
The brakes were seized but are now free.

The 109 will be on the ferry boat to Nassau on Tuesday.
I have a feeling that this will be a VERY long term project.

Thanks,

If all goes well she will be here 8pm this evening.
I will take pictures and start a new thread.

Some more good news.
Because the Series is older, It looks like I can get all the parts I need out of the U S. This will save me quite a bit of money on freight as apposed to bringing it all in from the UK.

Good on you, mate!

yes, you can get the bits for this out of the US. Series IIIs are not at all uncommon here (relatively speaking and as land-Rovers go) so just about anything that will fit a stock 4-pot Rover is easy enoiugh to get.

One company I know ships aoroad on a regualr basis is Atlantic British in upstate NY. Only connection i have with them is as a satisfied customer (and answerer of question on obscure Rover bits :) ). Get hold of Eric Riston there - he can get you whatever you need.

i'm looking forward to seeing what you can do woth the old girl - looks like a great truck!
