I thought my diff front bearing was a little tired and in need of some TLC. Took it off as I also had heard a strange noise.

mmmm, think I found the problem.

will have to search for the bit that is missing from the middle in the morning.

Tis the second one, the first one the PO did not tighten all the crown bolts. That one went pop and I chucked this one in.

Think I have a similar issue with the front diff too, very, very rumbly ...

The rear needs new bearings but that's getting sorted when I get time.

I hope you are going to do a step by step picture account of taking this apart and refurbing it.

Have you found the missing bit of gear yet?

Not likely. Anooying thing is I could have if I had kept the first broken one. But as I binned it, that is not going to happen. I got a 2nd hand diff today , have had to change the flange over. So tomorrow back.in. Then it is fitting of the new rear brake calipers.

I thought you could buy all of the gears and pins? Could be wrong.

You can get the parts, I did look , but at £60 / £90 for the pins and gears , when I can get a 2nd hand good cond diff for £40, it was a no brainer.

Yeah, just been looking them up. LINKY Depends on how bad it is and what's gone I suppose.
Where did you get the second hand one from? Could you check it before you paid?

I know a guy who breaks old D1's, D2's and RR's, He had a few in stock, just needed the flange changing over. I went over and gave it a good going when I picked it up from him.
Plus at least the outer pinion bearing on the old one would have needed replacing as well. I have it and maybe during the winter I will get bored and work on it as an exercise, but it is not really cost effective to refurb it at this point.

Very useful with a 90, D1 300tdi and 3 D2's in the family..............

..Maybe Me and the Old Man should set up a standing order...LOL

Also got fantastic service from Ribble Valley, ordered my new rear calipers Yesterday at 11AM , arrived at the local Argos at 2PM Today.....Fitted by 4PM.

Tomorrow is test drive and then ready for Greenlaning next weekend.
