hi everyone, again im having probolems with my brakes! ill go through the list of parts!

its had:
5 britpart wheel cyclinders! they went pop!
4 new drums, and a set of shoes! these seem okay!
4 twr wheel cyclinders! supposed to be decent(not)! went pop!
2 master cyclinders, twr, and britpart! twr one seems alrite!

i think my brakes are cursed, becuase anything i buy for the thing,it just seems to destroy them, all 4 twr cylinders have gone pop,and these arnt cheap ither,so what am i doing wrong, all im doing is bleeding them and adjusting them up! i clamp the cylinders shut before i bleed them so no air can get traped inside the fluid chamber, and everything is fine, drums are all fine, im running out of ideas, funds, and paciance now,i expect them to be abit spongy bacuase of new shoes and drums, but when they nearly hit the floor and do vertialy nothing, then there has to be a probolem! iv had this probolem for months, and it keeps coming back! any ideas?? :(

thanks,tom!

Could it be that you have a servo with a vaccum thingy, and your still running single leading shoes?

nah i have man brakes on mine,no servo! and yea im using dot 4 with mine, they just keep going pop,was going to try and order some from bearmach, becuase i havent tried them yet,but at 40 quid a wheel cylinder i cant afford another set, thats twr cyclinders at 40 quid! what is everyone else using? just want some decent brakes, thats all i want, just want to know i can stop when i need to! :(

I put Lucas/TRW ones on the front on mine and not had any trouble at all other than the misery of bleeding them up.

When you say going pop, what's actually happening, seals blowing out, casing cracking, pistons jumping out, piston getting wedged?

when i took the drums off earlier all i was doing was clamping the cylinders up,bleeding them, and roughing the shoes and cleaning everything, but when i peeled the boot back to have a look, they had abit of moisture in them,so just to make sure they wernt leaking i put the drum back on,and put abit of pressure on the pedal, took off the drum, and peeled the boot back, and a load of fluid rained out! so i think the seals just keep going pop! :(

nah ino,iv brought many ****part wheel cylinders, and they realy are ****! i just cant explain it,these twr ones are 40 quid each, unless im just paying for the name, and they arnt any better, but they are supposed to be genuine part! maby i just need to order all new cylinders, and a mastercylinder, and just bleed the hell out of them, and see what i get! i dunno anymore to be honnest,im abit lost as to what to do next! :(

this place does lucas @ £32 each, still a fair bit but saving a little on the £40 price

Land Rover Series One Brake Parts Page 1

been meaning to order some for the s1 but never got round to it.

I am tempted to just get a seal kit for £3 but i don't really know what i am doing so its probably not a good idea.

i know its an s1 page but the detail says good for 3 too

all the springs are on rite, they are the origonal springs(they are fine) and im not clamping them to tight,i get what ur saying,i could be pushing the seals in too far, causing them to **** up,but my grips aint big enough to clamp em rite shut! i was thinking that the air in the system may have just detiriorated the seals, becuase iv been driving it like it for a while, and if they are getting hot enough, and there is just air in the chamber, then the seals have distorted maby! i dunno im running outa ideas! oh and do the front wheel cylinders fit on the backs with out modification, becuase i was thinking about putting some 1 1/4 inch on that back for better braking? :tea:

thanks for the replys!!

okay, well thanks for all the tips, much appriciated, ill have to drive her as she is till the end of the month, and ill order some new ones at the end of the month, probably twr ones agin, but i might well put some front ones on the back, the 1 1/4 inch! i presume this means having a bigger bore master cylinder?? :)
