I'm a very sensible Audi driving project manager with a long term interest in Land Rovers. Had a Discovery a few years ago but now moving onto the hard stuff and looking for, probably, a Defender. It's going to be weekend/holiday sort of thing as I travel huge distances for work and the Audi will stay. Not sure whether to go for a 90 or 110 but have discounted a series mainly as I have little interest or ability to fix them but happy to pay someone to keep a more up to date vehicle in running order. Would be interested in views on 90 vs 110.

Regards, Jon.

If it's just for fun, get a 90. They're a bit more capable off road and take up less room on the drive. If you want to carry loads of stuff or people then get a 110. Either way, go for a 200 or 300 TDi. Don't know what your budget is, but you should get a runner for about £2.5k and a really good one for £5k.
Hope that helps.

I'm probably going to spend around £8k which I know is a fair amount for a weekender but I'll probably spend as much fixing a cheaper one in the long run so I may as well start skint.

Try to find the latest / lowest mileage / best condition 300TDi you can. With that much money, you should be able to find a minter with FSH.
Don't be tempted to go for a TD5 - LR took a backward step with that one.
