Hi,

I entered a draw on dream car giveaway and somehow ended up winning this beauty.

It was a spontaneous entry and I really want to sell my BMW M135i and go with the Defender rather than the cash equivalent, even if it isn’t as practical.

I was hoping you experts could help me out with a couple of queries (which I am also googling):

1) It is hard to value this car, the £20k cash alternative seems quite fair, how do you think the car is valued?

2) I assume this car isn’t Ulez compliant meaning I will have to pay when driving in Greater London when the new rules come come into play in October? Not ideal as I live in London suburb!

3) Is it possible to get get a decent sound system installed given the limited space? I like nothing more than loud bassy music on my Sunday drives and am happy to pay the money but couldn’t find any good options for the pick ups

4) Is there anything else I’m not considering as a complete newbie who has to make a decision over the next couple of days?

Thanks all for your help

Take the money.....
You have all you want in the car you have now.

Or have the motor & sell it on after a week. You may not get the £20k

Either way it’s all profit on the price of that ticket ;)

@jacklandy44 , unless a Defender is your absolute dream car, take the cash. £20k windfalls rarely drop into ones lap so readily. Owning a Land Rover is unlike any other vehicle, it'll spend more time off the road than on, and unless you're especially good with repairing heavyweight vehicles you'll need to have the cash to pay someone else to repair. You will need a secure garage to keep and repair the truck, and a good number of specialist tools. Land Rovers, in particular shiny Twisted examples, are stolen daily and stripped for parts/shipped overseas to order never to be seen again. Oh, and if you choose to keep the 90 the first thing to buy is security...lots of it.

Apart from the above, congratulations on your win!

ps High quality bass thumping sound systems and Land Rovers are not natural bed fellows ;)

Thanks for your response. I have always loved the Defender and if I had off street parking I would be keeping it as a second car without a doubt. I don’t normally enter these competitons but when I saw the Defender come up I couldn’t resist.

Part of me really wants to take the Defender and run both cars, at least for a bit to see if I can live with it (hence the question about value).

Grab the money and run, if you get the landy you will be hooked and forever underneath it and spending hard earned cash, forget sound systems in a Defender they are a waste of time, a bog standard radio just to drown out the noises that will develop is all you need.
Not a good choice as a main car and not if in the city, as a second car or play thing yes so you have a back up car when the landy let's you down when you need to be somewhere. No keep the landy as a pipe dream and escape with the money while you can. Anyway you would not have it long as IT WILL GET STOLEN.

Thanks for all the feedback so far, I now know it won’t be a main car. However a friend has offered me secure storage space at no cost (where he also keeps his defender) a few miles from where I live. I’m now tempted to keep it for a bit as a weekend toy… I wonder if I would get it he £20k back in a year or so…

You can put a decent sound system in a 90, depends on your budget - just don’t drive it if you want to hear what’s playing though.

If it was me - I’d take the cash, blow £10k on hookers & booze and waste the rest (thank you George)

Seriously - drive it, enjoy it, regret ownership, sell it and keep the memories, you’ll still have trousered some decent profit.
