Hi all,

I’m trying to replace my brake discs but I can’t get the hub nut off. Any tips on how to remove it?

I’ve got a 52mm socket on a 24” breaker bar and it won’t budge.

Tried heating it up with a blow torch and dousing it in wd40 but no luck with that either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Have you unstaked the staked bit on the nut?
This will help a bit, otherwise scaffold pole slipped over your breaker bar.
I didn't have this problem as the specialist who did mine didn't do them up tight enough and they came loose.

Is there not supposed to be a bit clearance rather than lashed up tight
 
Yeah its a td5 with a staked nut which I’ve opened up so that should be free to spin
It will still be tight.
The two nut method the nuts really aren't very tight and should be easy to crack off when the tab washer is bent back.
Give it a bit more effort with a longer bar.
Consider converting to the two nut method when fitting your new bearings, maybe a gorilla has cross threaded the nut and stub axle?

I've tried a 3ft scaffold pole and even tried using a 5ton bottle jack on the breaker bar and that wont budge either, anything else I can try?

Managed to get it loose finally with a 2.5m scaffold pole and a blow torch!

I’ve a second issue on the final brake calliper, the top calliper bolt is completely rounded, and I can’t work out a way to get it loose. I’ve tried hammering on a 12mm socket and a 1/2 inch Irwin bolt extractor, neither had any grip on the bolt. Is there anything else anyone would recommend trying?

Yer roast the carrier use a flat punch to shock the bolt & use a good pair of mole grips if the head is totally rounded.
You might have to persuade the grips with a hammer.
 
Also just to add I would get yourself a set of aviation spanners for majority of the nuts underneath - they'll give you the leverage you need for nuts like calliper bolts
 
If there is room a Stillson wrench will grip something rounded best as the way it works the harder you pull the harder it grips. I have several from a 6" tiddler to a 4'monster. Pluss one on the heat as well.

You need to keep that one on heat away from the rest of them then. A litter of baby Stillsons is the last thing you need !!
