Hi all. Having a few issues and I'm wondering if I have the correct parts. I've got a bellhousing HRC1127 which I believe is off a defender LT77, but not sure and am trying to fit to an adapter ring designed to fit series box to a V8.
However the bellhousing doesn't seem to fit in the ring properly and I wondering if I'm supposed to grind off the lip im pointing at, or if I have miss match of parts. Maybe there is more than one adapter ring?
Anyone done this fit and offer any advice?
Cheers

Just checking...
Does the plate fit up to the engine ok?

looking at the photos yes that ring would have to be removed for it to fit flush.

With the extra length (with adapter ring) will this affect the starter motor needed?

keep us posted

Thats where it gets a bit weird. Its not actually going on to a V8. I have a 3.6 VM engine fitted at the moment which has the same bolt pattern as a v8. I think its currently got a bellhousing from an SD1 on it, but the slave is all bodged in, on the wrong side and let's loads of water and mud in when wading

I'll have to grind a bit of the adapter ring for starter but hoping to just bevel the contact point on the inside. There's a guy on YouTube who has a video of him doing the conversion with a detroit diesel which is in essence the same engine and made by motori.
I found the adapter and bellhousing buried in a mates workshop and am not sure which bit is wrong. Didnt want to butcher a perfectly good bellhousing if its not a defender one. Equally don't want to pull everything out to find i have the wrong adapter as they seem to be like rocking horse **** to find.
Guess I'll just have to take a punt and pull the box, get some glue and a big hammer and keep fingers crossed.

Would a series3 or Tdi engine back plate go onto the engine easier?( done plenty of these 300 to short bell housings)
There are different short bell housings from
Sherpa vans that use a slightly different gearbox but the bolts form bell house to gearbox are the same.

spigot bush?? End of main shaft are they the same size? Or is is a fly wheel change?

I don't think the engine back plate would fit and the starter is on the other side. Maybe worth a check if i can find a pic or one to compare though.
The bellhousing bolts all line up on the studs its just the adapter sits on the locating ring of the bell housing. Sherpa one may be different, may even be what I have lol.
Spigot size is deffo different VM is smaller but i was just going to get a different size bearing or have a bush made. Not sure whats in it at the moment, but I'm presuming with the SD1 bellhousing the shaft of what I think is the original LT77 doesn't even reach the bush and is what has caused the box to start shaking itself to bits.

Don't chuck the SD1 V8 bellhousing, the TR7-V8 people pay good money for them.

When I put a V8 into a Series 3, I didn't have to modify the bellhousing. The series 3 has the same ridge, does it just need cleaning up or is it miles out? It's hard to tell from the pic.

I'd say you'd probably have to take 5mm off the inside of the adapter. I basically sits just on to of the bellhousing lip. Looks like I may have the wrong adapter :( whats weird though is the fact that the studs line up with the bellhousing.
I won't chuck the SD1 housing. May have to keep using it as the v8 adapters seem to be very thin on the ground or stupid money now.

There was someone thinking of having some made on the forum a couple of months back.
