Bonnet doesn't match the rest of it, so needs to be painted!

How do I remove the bonnet?

Is it really as simple as it looks? I've undone the 'folding bonnet prop thing' and pushed it right up parallel with the windscreen. If I lift it, the nearside comes free, but the offside doesn't. Does it just need a bit more encouragement, or do I need to do something a bit more technical?

Cheers!

Mine has got a rubber sleeve jobby that sit's inside the bracket on the bulkhead, and i have to make sure the slit in the sleeve is in line (facing up) with the bracket.
WD-40 and wiggle it around with a screwdriver if necessary, it will come out.

Well, the bonnet came off really easily after a bit of a wiggle of one of the nylon bush inserts. The spraying didn't go quite so well - I didn't get the coverage I had been told I would. 150ml of spray paint doesn't go very far:D !

As Rover Russet Brown is not a colour oft used these days, I then had to traipse around the A1 Motobitz stores of Dorset seeking out the other three cans in existence.

Which still wasn't quite enough.

So I put the bonnet back on.

Question - should I be securing the bonnet hinges in some way? Ie by turning the nylon bush insert things forwards or backwards to some extent? When I removed the bonnet in the first place the offside bush was out of line with the hole in the steel outer, but the nearside bush was in line with the hole. Which is correct?

Cheers,

With the bonnet off the slot in the nylon/plastic bush thingy should be in line with the hinge bracket so that the bonnet can lift in and out in the vertical position.
As you close the bonnet the bush rotates stopping the hinge coming apart.
In normal use the bonnet hinge will not come apart until raised to the vertical position.

This forum is an excellent source of info as this was just the question I was about to ask!!!
