I ordered a complete snorkel and wading kits.

Snorkel looks easy enough, and came with instructions.

The wading kits arrived with no instructions, is it that easy?

Any videos or piccs out there on installation?

Essentially, yes - it is simply, but 20 minutes worth of reading will go a long way and there are guides on here somewhere....

Use plenty of silicon on your snorkel pipes, and seal every joint back to the inlet. Also, if you've a 200tdi (and 300 i think?) don't forget the fart valve (rubber thing) under the air filter.

what's the issue with the airbox dumpvalve (fart valve lol) has it got to be sealed up? I am planning on getting a wading kit and snorkel for my 200tdi disco and have been pre assessing my intake system and have wondered about this valve

another one, thats sneaky on my 300 anyway, is a second valve right at the bottom of the inlet pipe.
and yes, seal it, in theory, the pressure of the water seals it up, in prectice on ????year old rubber.
for the airbox valve a 2l pop bottle cap fits nicly, for the one at the bottom, pull the flap off, coat in sealant and shove it back on.

Everything has to be sealed up.

Getting a bit of bow wave over your bonnet occasionally type of wading probably wouldn't cause any problems, but if you get caught out or miss-judge the depth and the standing height of the water means everything under your bonnet is submersed you don't want any weaknesses!

That includes all gaskets and oil seals

I wondered about that - particularly the dipstick seal, but:

Diesels breathe so heavily (compared to their petrol counter parts) that I wonder how much head of water would be needed to over come the positive pressure inside the oil galleries?

For example, if you take the oil cap off my tdi golf while it running it sounds like an exhaust pipe, and we know a head of 4ft of water won't go up that, so perhaps 1ft over the engine would make no odds weak gaskets or not..?

Well if oil can get out then water can get in. There's a video going about of some nuggets getting their RRC stuck in standing water then the clean up afterwards. They take the plug out off the diffs and transfer box and what pours out most certainly isn't oil. I wouldn't risk it in the off chance that I did get stuck. The engine might be fine but all fluids will need to be drained, cleaned out and replaced. Anyway the oil cap should have a sufficient seal on it and the dip stick has a rubber seal around the top

While there is definitely need for caution, just because oil can get out doesn't mean water can get in - not at least when the engine is running, otherwise water would go up your exhaust faster than we could laugh at a pink gaylander! :D

Diff - yup - agreed 100%

went through some puddles today and lost power steering and the alternator light came up real bright. I put some new belts on about a week ago but they still squeak occasionally. surely when wading I'm going to get the loss of power steering and the alternator light up again. how would i stop this on my 200tdi disco?

Wouldn't worry about it. I get it quite often too and there's not a lot you can do, its just water splashing on the belt. I've got mine properly tensioned though since I last replaced the belt its been doing it a lot less. I thought of maybe making some kind of undertray just to stop it but it doesn't bother me that much. Check your belts tension, should have 4mm deflection

ok will do. was thinking of some sort of casing or undertray/ guard to help prevent it with puddles as it did it when I was towing today just before a turning so definitely not ideal
