Im new to Landys I've owned a 1.8 Freelander 1 for a year and really liking them. So I'm looking for a land rover Defender 90 for work and play.
All the cars are modified with new engines and new chassis etc

If all this has been changed how is it the same car as all the numbers wont match the number plate, and if it has had a new engine does that affect the tax band in sense of age of car?

Any help
Thank you

You get points for different major components like axles, engines and gearboxes.

If the chassis has been replaced with a new chassis then it almost certainly won't have a chassis no. stamped on it, so you ideally want the reciept for the replacement one to show as proof of replacement.

If the engine has been changed then it depends what the change is. My 90 was a 2.5 Petrol until about 2000, then it became a 2.5 diesel, I simply filled out the V5 with the new fuel type and engine and all was fine, it then became a 300tdi so in the eyes of DVLA it was still a 2.5 diesel, I just made sure to tell my ins company it was a 300tdi 2.5 TD engine - all they cared about was it a LR engine.

It would be worth making sure the new engine no. is on the V5, this can save issues, next issue is where is the new engine from? If for example you know it came (like mine) a Disco that was then broken and the DVLA were properly notified, then that engine will as far as they are concerned be suitable for used in another vehicle. If that engine no. still shows as being in use then they can get upset.

If you change enough bits the DVLA may wish to inspect it.

Interested in this too.

So I gather...if I swop my td for tdi yet keep 2.5 its ok.
Chassis, bulkhead swop for galvanized ok but better if I get a stamped one. Obviously all receipts kept.

Axles will be changed to new disco on rear for disk brakes and transfer box. Plan on keeping the look pretty standard, merely improving the drive and safety.

If I do it that way I should be fine, right? I like my b plate n want to keep it.
