how long can it last

had the hippo for over 4 years now and the only problem i have had is a fuel leak (touch wood fingers crossed) its a td4 auto 2003 with 122000 on the clock .what sort of mileages can these things do with out something major going bang cheers all

I’ve herd of owners hitting 200k miles. Obviously it’s down to good ownership, correct maintenance and a lot of praying. All depends on whether you get a good one or not. Fare wear and tear, and correct preventative maintance to keep him in good health will help you go along way.

Engine seized at 500 miles… auto leaking badly at 8000 miles… auto replaced at 12900 miles… passed his mot yesterday, as he does yearly, with no warnings or faults. 2001 v6 currently on 18600 miles.

200k sounds like a good mileage to aim for.are hippos as bad as everybody makes out because from personal experiance i think there great certainly a hell of alot better than the discovery that i had before the hippo nearly put me off landrover for good nearly went for a slitty

hippoos are as bad as everybody makes out because from personal experiance i think there great certainly a hell of alot worse than the discovery that i have now. The hippoo nearly put me off landrover for good - I went for a slitty as every day drive and never looked back.

fair comment mhm as i said can only go by my own experience with the hippo but my disco was clean and shiny with full stealer service history and it was still the worst pile of sh...t i have ever owned breakdown after breakdown but like i said only my opinion from very bitter experience

Eldest TD4 now 166k and all original. Full synthetic oil throughout. Props removed April to October. Good workhorses. D..
