run the fecking fans on the aircon rad, i dont know what the issue is but with aircon on its sending temp sky high and i'm a little ****ed off with it.

can i force the fans to run???

hi gav can you not run them to switch in the car just like on normal car cant see that causing big problem? how the man flu?

anything is possibly Gav

all you need to do is find the fan power wire and break it. run both sides of the wire into the cab to a switch, obtain ignition on power (fused to be suitable - might even be the correct fuse in the fuse box) connect it up via an on/on single pole switch so that the fan is connected to the common and the other side of the fan wire (ECU?) goes to one side of the switch and ignition power to the other, this will give you a manual overide to the fans.

-------- Ignition power
\
------ Common to fans
/
-------- Power from ECU?

I would suggest it is the ECU trigger that is faulty.

If you dont want ECU control, just leave it in the manual mode - but it gives the option of reverting to ECU control easily if you ever have to.

I believe Fuse 8 is HEVAC, along with Radio and Cigar lighter (easy tap in there).
I believe the HEVAC ECU gets a squarewave signal from the ABS ECU,via the BeCM to control fan speed - might be checking this stuff to.

It sounds like a sensor problem, the Engine ECU will only operate the fans in a sort last resort situation at a high engine over temperature. So far I have not found a specific temperature in RAVE for this. Could be you have got a faulty engine temp sensor so the ECU is not aware of the temperature.

Depends how you are with electrics, but I could produce a little design that would operate the fans automatically based on engine temperature. It's not as simple as in the average car due to the dual speed mode, but not too difficult. I plan to do this on my DSE because I am not happy with the engine temperature with the air con running. Let me know if you are interested:cool:

there is a temp, its the outside air temp! And the mph which signal the fan start. I just wanted 2 check they are workin by jumping a relay

OK well I can't find anything in RAVE that say's an outside air temp is involved. However if you look at relay 18 in the engine compartment fuse box, you can either remove it and put a jumper wire between pins 3 & 5 which should bring the fans on at half speed, or remove the cover of relay 18 and operate it manually which will do the same thing. Fuse F31 in the engine compartment fuse box is the power source, its not clear to me from the drawings if the ignition has to be on, I suspect not.

I have not tried this yet as I want to mod mine to control the fans from engine temp direct. Just doing the investigations at the mo.

as soon as aircon goes on temp rises and fans dont kick in, i suspect fans are faulty, once its confirmed i can replace em or find the bloody fault. the mod would be a good idea tho for peace of mind!

The only thing that controls the fan speed unless I have missed something is the Trinary switch 1 on the air con, road speed may well control switch on and off. The alternator also provides a signal to HEVAC to say the engine is running.

Operation of the fans can be forced for test purposes with diagnostics with the engine ECU software module to confirm their operation.
The trinary switch is fitted to the receiver/dryer located behind the front bumper..passenger side.
You could remove the grille, disconnect the harness plug to the fans and put a 12v+ wire to the Black & Red and Black & Brown wires to the fans and a second ground wire to the other spare pins on the fan plug leads. This will tell if the motors are ok, whereas the diagnostics force will prove the output from the ECU, via the relays to the fans. I fitted a supplementary temperature sensor set at 98deg on/90deg off to mine. Got an inlet manifold to top hose elbow for a 3.9 Classic which is tapped to take a temperature sensor, made up an adaptor to take the new sensor which has a M20 thread, mounted an external relay below the fuse box and used the sensor to trigger the relay coil, putting a fused 12v+ to the fan supply via the normally open relay contacts.I did this becuse I tow a twin axle caravan and was concerned in case the trinary switch failed, which it hasn't and I can also advise that the setup has never had cause to operate.
The sensor was Interpart and got it from a motor factors over here, they are used for triggering electric radiator fans.

why cant it just feckin work!! could bad earthing cause it not to work because ive had a couple of strange things happen lately!!!!

fans work, jumpered pins 3 & 5 on each of the following in turn:

relay 18 - both fans half mode

relay 13 - one fan full speed

relay 14 other fan full speed.

so where do i go from there, its obviosly in need of a signal. how do i provide a signal??

also had it on t4 thursday and the fella said he couldnt get it to force the fans, he didnt really try!!! AND he couldnt comunicate with the airbag system. he said the wires are corroded and its not letting him in. the wires for engine ecu arnt corroded cos he got in!! and as you know i can operate eas!!!

good job he didnt charge me!!!

i just had mine read and said the same but did add could well be wire behind stering wheel but did not have time to look at it igot airbag light on and srs

if its the rotary coupler then its gonna be expensive. check the blue plug is in the dash binnacle tho, take cover off under steering, the flat, interior coloured bit, and make sure there are 2 plugs in the speedo box!

going to have a look on sat feel like **** today think igot man flu horn gone off as well no end to silly things at least it still running touch wood

Get it on Rovacom or Autologic.
You need to have the check done in order to find that the output is present from the engine ecu when triggered.
I have not heard my fans working for years, but all is well. It's like saying "My airbags don't work" everytime you hit a pothole!!
