Hi - finally got agreement from my wife that our next car could be a Defender... planning my trip out to the dealer to pick up a new or nearly new 110 (we are in Sydney not Solihull!). I've previously had a diesel 100 series Land Cruiser which I took 26,000 k's around Aus, no break downs and never got stuck, all it had was a bullbar, didn't even move the spare to the back... With a Defender what do I need to be comfortable offroad, do I need a snorkel, what tyres should I get at the start, what about GPS options from the dealer, after market side steps and bullbar or dealer, what about a back bumper thingie, needs to take surfboards so what about a sleek roof roack (not a big safari version whcih can't go into underground carparks) and has anyone fitted a reverse camera and front sensors... for my wife ;)

Look forward to your thoughts!

Thanks - didn't even think about that - I've got a decent snatch strap, so assume that the points should be updgarded?

I find the. Best way is to tell it yu are just going to the local park and then suddenly turn off into the boonies. If yu are quick, yu can be off road before it realises. Not sure why yu want to trick it tho. Landies are like dogs - they look forward to going "drivies" :).

Hi gents

Don't you like that ghetto talk? Don't you all have low profiles and twenty inch chrome rims? Just joking - I know that's offensive talk...

Anyway, seriously, what are the keys to making a defender a more reliable offroader? I have done a whole lot of offroading, lots of it longer than the length of the UK from help.... so understand the need for a good basic vehicle, but my previous land cruiser was a heap more powerful than a 110 so probably dragged me out of situations that I was stupid enough to get myself into... given I've got once chance in my life to buy new, what should I be getting????

True, thoughtless of me and probably not strictly correct but it did have a 4.2 litre lump dragging it along - truth is it did everything without an inch of style and was only bought because of a lack of backbone (I set out to buy a 110 and my wife test drove the 100 series and wallah).

so you will now have a vehicle that leaks and the wife will hate- welcome to the club:welcome2:
