How big is the market for 4x4 fit-outs?

Just wondering what the general thoughts might be on the demand for LR fit-outs in terms of camper/work vehicles?

My trade background is joinery.

Just fitted out a couple of campers, first one a VW T4 high top, the other a LWB hightop transit.

Obviously many Landy owners DIY there own fit outs, some good, some not.

What with the right tools and joinery knowledge shaping and cutting furniture boards for me is easy and they do look good when all the edges meet at the right places, I used the the light weight faced boards with plastic lipping, curved ends and curved door cuts etc.

Is there enough demand to turn this into a cottage business I wonder?
 
Possibly, but what is against you is weight. No doubt you are skilled enough to make loads of gear, but making a bed, table and perhaps a couple of cupboards...would seriously affect the weight of a landy...that's not to say there is,nt a market. Just a tip,....I also have a motorhome, and some of the layouts are firkin horrendous, so people would like them changed, I,m talking changing cupboards, adapting beds etc. I currently have to remodel the crappy pull out bed in my MH, not looking forward to it, but its got to be done, so you should be aboe to grab some work.
 
a joiner friend of ours is helping us re fit the back of our range rover,we have stripped out the seats and will replace them with storage,draws and a sleeping platform
 
No wood in mine , steel tube and ali and stainless , wood doesnt last that well on bad corrugations. and does tend to get a bit heavy , just thought used phenolic ply on roof rack , I suppose thats wood :)
 
When we built our large trailer we used a lot of GRP/Polyester honeycomb panelling which saved a lot of weight over the GRP ply we used for the main body panels.

Wood is OK as long as its use is appropriate for the application.

We've half thought about a rebuild using all honeycomb panels, but it's about £3500 worth.

To do it for a job I doubt you would be on a winner, people wont be lining up for this service and you couldnt charge too much to cover the lack of work.
Guy not too far from here fits out narrow boats even though he is nowhere near a canal, seems to do OK out of it.
 
I already know of a company that have done this, they were at a land rover show last year, they insulate the landrover first, then fit it out with what ever is specified by customer, they also made a camper trailer from memory.

Also I remember them saying the defender 110 is ideal, obviously the 130 even better!, a 90 is possible but cramped for bed space.

Also I remember them saying you can register them as campers with the dvla.
