Hose question

Hi all, I have a 2010 RR TDV8 and it has issues. Not long after owning it it developed a power problem around 1500-2000 rpm. It would judder and lose power. I could push through it and it would pull OK. Also while there was a loss of power and accelerating there was a brief clatter/knocking (sorry its the only way I can describe the sound) a cloud of smoke and it would return to normal. I took it back to the garage I bought it from and got them to check it over under warranty. They fixed it and told me it was a split air pipe. I picked the car up and everything was fine. The same problem has returned 5 months later. Looking under the bonnet I can see the n/s intercooler pipe was the one they replaced so I have checked the o/s one and it is OK. My diesel knowledge is VERY poor so I wondered if there are anymore hoses that relate to the intercooler system I should check?

there are few threads in searchbar. One guy replaced both hoses turned out to be EGR gunked up/stuck open. Intercooler could be blocked easy check
Check what you can yourself first, next step would be diagnosis if it can’t be found by rummaging
The wiser will be along with better info before long

The intercooler hoses usually blow on the bottom of the pipe near the turbo, fook knows why..

They never blow in a place you can easily see!!

hi mate

hope all is well

have u tried the T bolt clamps for hoses , I got them fitted on mine when I replaced the intercooler hoses for silicone

never had a problem with hoses blowing off unless there’s an underlying trait of why they do it

Hiys Gary, yeh i usually use mikalor clips, which seem to work well, i believe on the TDV8 it is a defect "among many"

Has it got the little crap clips they don’t sell holding the hoses onto intercooler?

I thought that funny enough , as I think I remember u saying u use them

Wondered that if there was a design flaw that causes the issue

must admit found them brilliant , also fitted them on my turbo intercooler hoses and getting to that hose is a
Mother @£@&@&@*@*@ , so wanted to ensure the hose would stay on and indeed as u say can give them some stick when tightening

plus there also stainless steel which is good

Next to the turbo? Where the pressure and temperature changes are greatest?!

They are jubilee clips with a strange hook/clip which hooks over the end of the pipe.

Oh no......so I had a look under the car to start looking for the other hoses and found oil everywhere. With my almost non exsitant experience with turbo diesel engines I am going to ask a stupid question so be gentle. Does the turbo require an oil feed via a pressurised hose that could be split? Possibly resulting in the loss of power and redecorating my engine in "hint of Castrol"

All turbos have an oil feed pipe and return that I know off, if there is no oil going to turbo it will seize up or at least not run very well and ware the bearing out.

Yes turbos are oil fed. There’s a pipe attached with banjo on the end normally. Never seen one split though they are usually metal and sturdy.

Best thing for oil leak when it’s everywhere is just to thoroughly clean and recheck shortly later track it down.
