Horrid noise

Wife heard large clunk followed by horrid rattle from front end. Noise is only present when in drive and makes same noise when wheels off the ground. Driveshafts removed and wheel hubs checked, no issues found. Was reverted to 2 wheel drive when VDU seized a year ago and lost a few teeth from the IRD unit.
Will be posting audio shortly.
Gut says gearbox - which then begs the question, repair or crush.
Am hoping the audio file (once uploaded) will get some answers.
