Hi,
I just googled "tow bar plug converter 7 socket 8 pin" and it returned a variety of options, at around £15 from Amazon & Halfords etc.

I'll be interested in watching this, as I have also a thule bike rack, and have just got a freelander 1, and haven't checked the compatability yet.

In fact, until I read the post, I hadn't considered it.

Yeh, my tow bar has the 'standard' LR round socket, but the NZ standard is a rectangular socket (pins in a straight line with middle one offset a bit).

I bought an adapter from a car spares shop.

Worked well.

Until I ripped the tow bar electrics off on a rock up in the mountains.

Thankfully I wasn't towing at the time

Are you sure the 8 pin socket isn't just a 13 pin one but not all the pins are used so are not there?

Are there empty places in the socket?

That's what it looks like to me. A European 13 pin plug, but only fitted with the 8 pins needed for the regulation lighting. ;)
