Dear friends from UK,
I'm based in Slovenia and I've bought and restored Series 3, 109, Station Wagon from 1972 and the person at the homologation didn't knew his business and wrote in the official homologation papers that my Series 3 should have the same kind of tires as Lada Niva, that's 175, 80, R16! That's literally half the tires that supposed to be, 750 R16. You can imagine how ridicules it looked!

I ignored the homologation paper and bought tires 225, 75, R16. Now I'm risking that police will stop me and make me pay a fine. The only solution is that I get a letter of statement from some seller of Land Rovers stating that the tires 225, 75, R16 are the suitable kind of tires for Series 3, 109, Station Wagon.

Is there someone who could do that for me? Is there an official seller of Land Rovers that could that? I would need some sort of official statement that those dimensions are good for my 109. It could be a pdf or an email letter or something like that.
With that document I could go to the person and ask him to write the dimensions in my official homologation papers.
My email is [email protected]
Thank you,
Borut

225 75 16 are not the correct size substitute for a 750 x16 that would be 235 85 16 or 265 75 16 the 265 is nearest in circumference , but slightly too wide for a standard landrover rim (ok on a 1 ton rim) 235 would be better in that respect HTSH

Buy a tyre from the dealer then your receipt will show the tyre size (get your registration number on the receipt too). If there are any questions then you can say it is the main dealer supplied tyre size specifically for your vehicle.

TOP**** PHOTOGRAPHY blog:eek:

225 75 are the wrong size , they are only suitable for 88" swb , and even then they need to be the correct load index , many 225/75 are only 104 load range . What is load index number on your 225 tyres ?

If I remember correctly the Older Range Rovers and Landrovers would have had 205/16s fitted as a metric alternative to the 7.50s as these were the closest, I know my 74 Rangie did when I had it in the late 80s.
You have to remember in the 70s they never had 60 or 70 profile tyres.
The modern size is now 205/80R16
I am sure you would not have been able to get the later size tyres that others have mentioned above.

Well i researched this issue,and the size i quoted are the correct replacement,for a 109inch landrover,the 88inch,had a different size.

The 109s I have had all had 7.50x16, or 205 or 225x16 radials. My 88s had 6.00x16s, not sure what the metric equivalent of that is. :)
well that is the size that came up,when i looked into it.Also on another 4x4 forum they gave the same answer.it also depended on the year of manufacture as they had different width wheels fitted.

Yes, they got bigger as the years wore on, I have never had a late series, my youngest was a 76, or at least it was on P plate.

IIRC I always thought my series drove better on crossply tyres, the steering seemed lighter, probably cos they had less grip.
