Right heres one for yous, Might not even be a problem but its on my mind.
I am hopeless at explaining things but will have a go. 300tdi, just back in the road after been stood since 2011, new timing belt kit ect.
Running well, I Think. But seems to be revving high, like wanting to go up a gear much sooner if you know what I mean,
For instance I live on a quite steep bank, now all the other old trucks I had would go up nice and easy in second untill you got off the top then in to third and so on. This one wants to go up in third, would manage 4th if I put my foot down, once on the top it needs to go straight to 4th after a few yards.
Just wants to go up a gear much sooner for some reason.
Is there any kind of explanation for this. or is it OK ??
Hope yous can understand all that, Sorry to be a pain, but if you dont ask you will not find these things out. ;)

Just checked, yes it was you:D.
They are very low geared as standard, made worse by fitting smaller tyres /wheels. My 110 was the same and the 'cure' is a transfer box out of a disco.
Couple of mods needed but nowt complicated. Some find it a step too far if they tow alot but I found it most satisfactory:D. A 90 being lighter should be even better.

Yes Thats Me :) Thought I was doing something else stupid. No chance of a Disco Transfer box took me 2 and half years to get this far.
So is it quite normal then ? think I can put up with it, I have larger 30 inch tyres at the mo but going to change them to the Standard size for Defender, whatever that is ?
Thanks

I have 7.50 tyres & disco Tbox.it won’t pull a full trailer in 1st
But fly’s through the box with no trailer
Can hold 4th between 50& 60 then will happily pull 5
As for fuel,I just keep adding it to the tank

I would disagree with the towing comments. I have a 200tdi, discovery transfer box, with 267/75 tyres which are about the same diameter as an old 7.50 and can quite happily tow a fully laden car trailer (fordson major, not a small hatchback). I would only need to change down into low range if I had a proper hill start, normal driving can all be completed in high range.

Agreed, mines the same 200tdi 110 SW with 265 75 16's, towed vw Sharan on a twin axle trailer a few times no problems.
But it's not as easy as when I had the standard transfer box fitted but perfectly acceptable considering the upside.

Is anyone running with the same set up I have ? Getting used to it now the longer I drive it, just need to know that it is OK to leave it as it is for now ?
Then I can get on with my next Teething Problem

It's fine, as Landrover intended.

I ran that set up for a couple of years when I first bought mine. I only swapped to a disco transfer box as I was doing a lot of motorway miles.
