Hey folks,

I bought a Freelander TD4 sport, 2005 model, 4 months ago. I bought it in France and commenced driving most of West Europe, down to Morocco, West Sahara, Mauritania and tried getting into Senegal but I didn't have a Carnet de Passage so I returned north.

Returning north I drove from Algecira, hugging the coast to Portugal and continued along the coast until I came to Aveiro (about 1 hour south of Porto). The mechanic found that the high pressure pump leaked. Trying to save some money I read up on this forum and decided to try and fix the pump myself. Got some help from a hobby mechanic, but it didn't work. The pump looked in pretty bad shape so I guess the service kit didn't cut it (or we did something wrong putting it back). Anyway, after 2 weeks a new pump was fitted and I'm now back on the road. (Cost me 900 euros including work. Grmbl!)

I'm in love with the car. We've covered 25.000 km together, done dirt tracks, heavy forest, sand dunes, desert, jagged rock tracks, dangerous mountain passes and endless stretches of highway together. She's been fantastic, never failing me once, apart from this first breakdown.

However, now that I'm more aware I noticed that there is a like a jolt or bump whenever the accelerator goes in or out (from nil). More accentuated on high rpm's. She also feels sluggish in the accelerator with slight hints of judder, random and very seldom, when the accelerator is stable.

I've been reading about the VCU and IRD and fearing that there has already been damage to the IRD. Alternatively the fuel system has a clog/malfunction in the injectors? I don't know. I'm not a mechanic at all. I just love driving my baby :)

Any inputs on my problem is highly appreciated! See you around :)
