Hi my freelander has developed an electrical fault with the headlights on the engine dies as soon as u turn the lights off it picks up again iv checked all the other electrics and its only the lights that cause the problem any suggestions appreciated. Many thanks in advance mark

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine at 2K rpm, you should have about 14.2 volts, try it again with the lights on. Odds on, if it's not a bad connection, it's a duff alternator.
 
Try a voltage test and have the alternator tested, easy enough to replace and could be bought for a hundred poons
