I have a 2010 Land Rover Discovery 4 TDV6 HSE for the last three years with no issues whatsoever. Lucky I guess lol.
However, this past three weeks it has had an intermittent starting problem. It will start one time and then not the next. New battery fitted, ignition comes on but push the start button and nothing. Leave it a few hours and away she goes.
This has gradually got worse this past week and has now not started for a week.
So, a tech friend and I took a look at it this weekend to no avail.

First thing we noticed was the steering locking mechanism was not releasing.
Voltage from the battery was 11.9v so we charged it up (its only 6 months old).
Battery was disconnected for the charge
Checked all fuses Engine fuse box and Interior fuse box - All ok.
Checked relays - All ok

When we started everything seemed to be working inside and outside of the vehicle except it was not firing up or even turning over.

Both batteries in the keys were changed and this made no difference.

Now, for some unknown reason things have stopped working completely such as the interior courtesy lights, the drivers electric seat, the drivers side electric window switches the indicators work but no clicking and no green arrows on the dash. No radio, heaters or heated seats etc....weird!

The passenger side and rear seats and windows work OK. I have checked the fuses and relays and they are all good and there is a feed going to them.

I managed to give the steering column a tap and the solonoid released and I thought this would send a signal to the ignition system and it would start but no, nothing still!

I just thought Id post this on here as I cant find anything anywhere to see if any Technicians may have come across such a problem or similar before. Before I cart it off to the Land Rover dealership :(

LR Diagnostic machine I'm guessing to check all the modules and CAN integrity etc...OR does some clever person in LandyZone hold the answer. Please.

Many Thanks, PT

Hello and welcome to LZ:)
Have you check the engine earth lead, a know problem on other LR products, you can use a jump lead to the engine as a check.

Good morning, and thank you for your replies so quickly.

Yes, we did prove the earth with a jump lead and this seems to be ok.

We checked for a secondary battery but dont believe it has one.

Thanks. Paul.
