Thought I'd sign up now just in case , Brexit and stuff ..
So I have a TD5 defender 90 pickup - which was not really the version I was looking for back in 2011 but so glad I got it - it works hard and is always dirty - promise. Just passed its MOT yesterday (here they last 2 years) with zero fails or notes! Almost every week I get asked is she for sale ..
And then there's old Gerty - 1998 4.0 P38 - she's been OK, still love driving her - finally had to stump up real wad to get her through the recent MOT - oil leaks and various steering components worn - went to the dealer for all this, cost a few bob - (but not compared to the depreciation on a new Range ..) then a week later came across an independent Land Rover trained mechanic .. but in general no major issues over the last 10 years - fiddling with air bags and the "air block", a new water pump, sticky door locks and the remotes! - I know the emergency key code off by heart .. But all good. Put in some CHAMPION 9201 plugs from Rockauto USA last year ( 28 euros each to buy in France!! )- not snake oil, real improvement - smoother and more responsive. Runs on LPG too, but more trouble than its worth TBH.
And then today I took the plunge - well my 4x4s are getting old ( also have a 1998 Jeep ZJ Grand Cherokee ) - spotted a Defender 90 Heritage locally - low miles, OK price (considering how they are going mad) .. See my first post for further details.
