Hi everyone my name is Tommo. Im in the airforce working as an aircraft technician fixing jets. Ive been into landys for 10yrs now, starting with an ex military 110 then a classic rangie and most recently a bit of a horror story with a 1995 p38 diesel. I bought said p38 last week and its been a nitemare since more the stuff that the owner did than whats wrong with the car. The main disturbing thing he did was to fit later wheels to an early p38 without fitting the correct spacers or wheelnuts. His answer to stopping the vibration at speed was to put blobs of solder onto two wheelnuts per wheel to try and centre them! This has resulted in the blobs of weld gouging out chunks of metal from the bolt holes in the wheels:doh:. This bloke calls himself a mechanic!! So far ive had to change the air springs, put a new exhaust on and now the fuel pump is leaking and the engine warning light comes on when changing gear! Apart from this i am loving driving it. Far more refined/quite than the old classic which has been retired from service atm for a long list of overdue repairs. Im also on the organising committee for the abingdon 4x4 festival so if anyone has any suggestions for improving the show then let me know. If youve been then you might have seen me in fancy dress driving a tangiers orange rangie delivering water to parts of the offroad course!
