I got a link to this site by chasing the hot start problems on the 2,5 BMW diesel engine. I would like to thank all for the info that members gave toward solving this problem.
This engine was built by Daimler Steyr in Austria. The same firm builds the MB G wagen as a complete vehicle. They make about 50 per day..many of them for military application in Canada. The fact that Bosch has such a stranglehold on diesel fuel injection allowed them to brush this "under the carpet".
That this problem was not addressed as a mandatory recall is disturbing.
I was not personally inflicted but I would have been slamming a few desks if I were. I always had a fancy for this engine, thanks again for the input.
