Hi all,
nothing to do with Landrovers but i thought this might be a good place to ask.Is anyone here in the hallage industry, as ive just been laid off and am thinking of going lorry driving.Just had my D4 medical and have sent my license off for cat c1,as soon as its back i will take the theory and then book up a 5 day intensive course with test on the 5th day.Anyone got any advice on the industry, tips ,hints ect.

I'm normally the one asking, that means you get the sh**ty routes, I work for a big logistics company - loads of stuff being moved in lots of big wagons
 
i certainly do and i wouldnt reccomend it to anyone, unless you are a billy no mates workaholic that doesnt need money and loves working for pricks that treat you like a slave and looked down upon by everyone from motorists to old people including children and parents. getting ****ed wet through whilst unloading and then having to sit in a 25 mile tailback waiting to get to your next destination, only to be informed when you get there that you are late and you best "take the fooker back" to where you have just come from, only to find that when you tell your boss that its all your fault. then if this isnt bad enough, when ever you go anywhere and people ask "what do you do" you get a strange look once you tell them.oh and then there is the option to stay away from home for 4-5 nights a week sleeping in the great dirty thing you have been driving all day, a lovely tin 6 foot square shed. you even get the luxury of having a wash in a sink on motorway service stations and living on **** food in cafe'sthat are dirtier than an outside toilet.. or would you rather i lied ;)
 
my brother is a class 1 driver on containers. **** easy job.
20k basic and nearly 30k with overtime.
not too bad methinks?
 
Is it really that bad ? you make it sound thats theres no respect for lgv drivers atall.What about the freedom of the road ect/
 
We've got one that goes back on it's self three times and need to be re-loaded twice at two different sites, normally takes at least one full driving day, as long as your the only thing on the road (including the white lines!!) Cutting cost ment we lost two drivers per depot so there normal jobs have been spread over the rest of our drivers!!! poor ba***ds, no extra pay and more angry people waiting at the other end, and then they have to come back to me or the girls to be told they 4got something and have to add on tomorrow if they have room & time left on Taco (what a god send) and go back to face Mr angry at drop off!!! .............. But I'm sure you'll love it :D :D
 
just remember when you see a nice big shiny truck and think "ooh thats nice" the only reason its like that is because the drive has no life and spends all weekends in the yard polishing the damn thing. i tell you no lies, it is a **** industry where the y are having to employ poles and other migrants to drive the wagons because the brit lorry drivers have had enough and they are all getting out
 
aye and yur feckin geography were crap. yur live in rhyl, ffs.

glad you didnt do the computer course, youde be counting wif an abacus.


should have done what my mate did. he did maths and woodwork. he now makes, rulers.
