hi all just a quick question i am currently in the process of buying a 110 9 seater but i have been informed that under 21's are not allowed to drive 9 seaters under dvla rules. is this the case?

ta! :)

Hello,

Im not sure about this one. I have a 110 12 seater, and im 18, i haven’t passed my test yet, however i am insured on the landrover and i have been learning in it, therefore it must be ok , my mate who is 19 is also insured to drive it and and does so allot.

I did hear something about not being able to drive anything with over 9 seats as well, but surely the insurance people would have said something if it was not legal??

Scott.

i think its all about what the vehicle is used for, 12 seats is normally classed as a minibus so be careful and make sure you actually say to your insurers that it is a 12/9 seater. if i were you i would keep telling them and ask them if they understand what you are saying . the other thing you could do is check with the dvla ;)

There are a couple of loopholes, but really try to avoid anythign with over 7 passenger seats if you passed your test after 1997

Under 21s can only drive motor vehicles under 3,500kg and with not more than 8 passenger seats - i.e. a B licence.

For between 9 and 16 seats you need a D1 licence.

just cos yer insurance company don't say **** don't mean its legal, they'll just wait till you put a claim in then tell you"sorry sir you couldn't possibly be insured for that type of veehickll"

hmmm indeed, well i had better start looking for a 90 then, or take the cushions away from the bench seats and call it a 5 seater ;) as i now have a cubby box in the front.

Cheers,

Scott

You can call it a pink one seated foo foo, its what its listed as on ya V5 that counts.
If you change the seating arrangement, even if only on paper, make sure divvy la know.

Indeed.

Well I'm now on the look out for a 90.
If anyone can recommend some websites to look at that would be all good and helpful, Ive tried autotrader, and ebay so far oh and of course this site too.

Cheers

Scott.
