Hey guys, my 2.25 diesel doesn't really struggle allot but you can tell when its starting when it's feezing, so I thought about getting a heated blanket (like you have for your bed) and putting it over the engine and leave over night (I know I'll need to use 240v socket but isn't much of a problem) anyone tryed it ? Or something similar ?
Thanks
Ben Waine

Sounds as likely to set your motor on fire as anything else. I think you can get a kenlowe pre heater that screws into your blockand heats the coolant but they are for Sweden and co.
It would be much better to check the usual things like glow plugs, tappets, fuel injectors, a 2.25 is well able to start in British conditions if things are set up right.

I haven't had a time it won't start, just you could tell its slower cranking, and thought it might help but yeh I don't fancy the idea of a burning car ! Just thought because they are about a tenner could be worth a thought

Well I have 'obtained' a battery and made some leads with 25mm^2 wire, to give me that extra boost, ( I belive if I do It in parallel then I will get more amps and still 12v? (Ie. put the extra battery + onto the the standard batt + and same with negative) and just as a disclaimer thingy, I have not stolen anything it has all been given to me, found In the garage or from the bay of E :)

your glows still wired in series via the ballast? try swapping em to the 12v parallel setup and get a multimeter on your battery and check the alt/dynamo output as well.

Just take care wiring two batteries like that, if they arent identical then you can easily overcharge one and boil the electrolyte or at least spew it over your battery tray. Not ideal. You can wire in a selector switch like used on boats. Make sure it will do big amps tjough. But the only neat way is an intelligent dual battery system but that is expensive. Just invest in a nice single battery and use a trickle charger in cold nights

I wasn't going to leave the extra battery in permenantly, just put it on in the morning when's its cold:)
Trax, what's the ballast ? And I assume that in parallel, each plug connects to the ballast via a separate wire ? And In series it goes from the ballast through each plug then to earth?

My baby is in the MOT place at the mo but should have it by the weekend, so I will check then :)

No reason why the 2.25d wont start no matter how cold it is...but the battery has to be big enought and in good order,

The hearter plugs need to be working ok,

And the starter motor has to be in good nick,

No need to me with blankets ect.

Nick.

Got her back from the mot place, turns out the throttle linkage wasn't set properly, so it ran rough on idle and Didnt give me a vaccum for the brakes!!!! The guy adjusted it for me and now is FAR Better starting and idling
