hi

i have been looking for a landrover 90 defender and have the chance of a series 3. all i know is its an A plate 1982 series 3 with leaf springs and it has been rebuilt on an aliminum chassis.

i know nothing of the series 3 other than it looks like a defender lol. i've heard that they can be forever having problems. is this true or are they no more trouble than a similar defnder.

thanks in advance

An A plate series that looks like a defender is almost certainly a stage 1. which was a stopgap between the series and the 90/110's. there as reliable as any other 24 year old landy. and the chassis will be galvanised steel not aluminium.

Well if it's got a galvanised chassis and the bodywork is straight then you can't really go wrong. As long as it hasn't got a V8 petrol engine it should be fine. If you can afford to run a V8 they're great engines as well but you'll only get about 12 to 14mpg out of one.

thanks. omg at 12mpg my stables are an 11 mile roundtrip so a V8 definately isn't an option! diesel all the way for me.

 yup good advice lol!;)

we took said series 3 out for a drive....hmm not for us. it was in good nick etc but the loudness, no PS and 4 gears was just a bit too agricultural pmsl.

we took a defender out in the morning and they're definately what i'm after. just wish someone would hurry up and buy my car now so i can go buy a landy

ps i'm already a bit obsessed:D why is it that you hardly see any landys then as soon as u want one they're driving everywhere - saw loads on thursday out in the snow :D

Better take this opertunity to say my 90 is up for sale soon :)
1988, 200tdi conversion hard top with all the gear for off roading and loads of time spent making a nice example, only a few battle scars :p
Let me know.
