Got a question for you guys. I have a 1988 110 petrol V8 model. The metal spinning part of the alternator in the pic attached is making metal on metal contact when spinning and it is making an awful noise from the metal spinning part making contact with metal. How do I fix this issue?

Firstly welcome :).

Do you mean its rubbing against the bit (I circled in blue?)

I would take off the belt and see if the alternator shaft wobbles around (the big nut in your pic).
How long have you had it?

Thank you for the welcome! Yes, it is rubbing against the bit that you circled in blue. I just recently got the vehicle. So I have put a ton of WD-40 on the big nut that you mentioned to try and loosen it (the big nut in the center). I have had issues with loosening the big nut, it does not want to come off.

What is the quickest way to take the belt off?

The quickest way to remove the belt is to cut it. The usual way is to loosen the tensioning bolts. In your picture it’s the slotted arm sticking up with a nut and bolt holding the alternator in position. Probably need to slacken the lower alternator mounting bolt too

So many people use WD40 as a releasing agent (aka penetrating oil) which sometimes works, but it's not what the formulation was intended for ie WD = water dispersant.

There are many alternatives on the market, personally I've sworn by Duck-oil ever since the days when I used to 'liberate' it from the workshop of the transport company I drove for ;)
For best results buy in a container & decant into a used spray bottle, rather than in aerosol form.

Update, I loosened the alternator pivot and removed the belt, the spinning part in the middle has play in it and can be moved forwards and backwards about a half inch, what is the solution to the problem?

Does anyone happen to know the part number for the alternator? I’m finding conflicting information for a 1988 Land Rover 110 V8.
Are you using the chassis or reg number to find the part?
You will need to get that front pulley off.
(Allen key in middle & ring spanner, spanner may need a shock knock to start with)

Your Landy is not a Defender [ the name came later on] Yours is a Land Rover One Ten, this detail can make a difference when ordering parts. Looks like a Lucas 127 type alternator.
