help today if poss. oil filter bowl parts

Hi again and sorry to be asking all the rudimentary questions.
I'm doing an oil change this morning on my 2 1/4 petrol engine and have a query. I think I might be missing a part. I have the filter bowl, 1 long bolt with washers and an o ring where it fastens onto the bowl. Inside I have a spring and 1 dished washer.
So on assembly, I insert the bolt with the washers and o ring. On the inside, I place the spring over the bolt. Place the dished washer onto the base of the filter and put this over the bolt. Now I feel there should be a another dished washer to place over the bolt and onto the top of the filter to help centralize the filter before fitting the whole lot back up onto the housing.
So, should there be a second dished washer? where can I get one or can I do without?
I checked the pdf but it doesn't show the spring or washers.

No, you are right with what you have. You need to hold the housing as you tighten the bolt, and turn it gently to ensure it goes into the groove, not on the edge of the base. If it goes tight suddenly, it's probably not seated properly. It should go tight gradually as you compress the new seal ring. There must be a diagram somewhere...

I had an absolute nightmare trying to get the O-ring to stay in the right place while I tightened it. Ended up not using it and just using some instant gasket and it's been fine so far!

The bottom dished washer closes the oil feed in the centre from dirty oil getting up into it from the outside of the filter - oil flows from outside to inside.

The top seats against the top of the filter assembly and allows the oil back into the engine - this needs to be open to allow oil flow. Hope this description helps - sometimes it's easier to visualize things if you have an idea what the damn thing's supposed to be doing!

Excellent guys 3 very reassuring answers. Now that I know that there is nothing missing and knowing how the filter works,I can put it back together with piece of mind.

P.S I've had the Landy 3 weeks and I've only got 1 skinned knuckle

Next time you change it, make sure there isn't the remains of an old one in the groove that someone hasn't bothered removing.....

Maybe next oil change or when engine out for fettling fit a spin on filter conversion.
2.5 n/a a straight swop.This saves a load of time and mess.

A bit of grease on the O ring helps it stick in the groove before offering up the housing.
