Can you identify what the circled items are made from? I had to chisel one off and it was shattering and inside appeared to be some sort of shiny stone stuff. The stuff is quite brittle. The reason I ask is that any area covered with this stuff was totally rust free and its waterproof. The pic is from the internet

Noise/ heat shield I think for cars I'm stripping I would warm up from outside and use a scraper but obviously you can't they are made of a rubber/ Bitumen.
If you can warm it gently from the opposite side ! It peels off ;)

Lorri you could always use a space heater near the rear to warm it up if its a paint surface you need to keep once warm under with a scraper and it will peel off ok

Thanks. It has only been put behind the spare wheel. The point I was making is that there is absolutely no rust behind it and also on the other side of the metal. It seems to be fantastic at stopping rust as I assume it is airtight.

It got me thinking.

Probably not be bitumen. Its carcinogenic and goes up a treat in a fire.

Is it the same as this stuff? A thick tar like pad that is quite hard to remove. If it is then its on the inside of some doors I have to reduce vibration

thanks for that wammers.

I've go my brother has got "some people" running some tests at his company. It's only about 2mm and I believe this stuff has promise. Thinner the better!

The centres of the cockpit side panels on my aircraft were covered in it to stop drumming. It's pretty heavy stuff though. But that won't matter in a Rangie much. :):)

That's the thing. Once I chiselled some off it was reasonably light. I reckon 4 pads could save people serious grief if put in certain places. I'm going to experiment and see how it goes :)

It's no better than painting to prevent rust , on some places on cars I've stripped it's acted as more of a water trap than protector and rotted floors .
