Help - Seat Belts in S3 SWB

Where can I get help in choosing and finding the right belts/fixings for replacing the ones on the front seats in my Series 3? The existing static belts are 3 point fixed on the the top of the bulkhead behind the top of the seats, corner of the doorwell and behind the seat back. They need replacing. I would prefer inertia if possible. Thanks.
 
I am in the process of upgrading the old static ones in my 109 pickup at the moment. I will post up what I have done and with what parts and get some photo's of it when I have completed it.
 
You local parts guru should be able to supply you some inertia belts - I just bolted mine on to my 2A - you can buy all the brackets top and bottom and it is about £50 a side. Took me about 2 hours. Got mine from a place called Gigglepin Land Rover in Kent. I can give you his number if you want.

I would also be very interested to know how/where you fixed the lower bracket, presumably the one where the reel is bolted to.
 
I just bought a Series III 88" 'in need of significant love' - but the chap that sold it to me also included a pile of new parts with it. I bought it as a 'tractor' to go farming with it and am not going to be fitting all the parts that he sold me. Included in the sale, unfitted and still packaged, is what appears to be a brand new set of inertia reel seat belts and all the fittings. I could perhaps be persuaded ...
 
After a bit of research there seems to be a load of different fittings needed for the different type of top you have.
Mine is a pickup truck cab. The seatbelts reel has to be floor mounted with a fitting on the door pillar for an upper mounting and then finally fitted down in the door opening.
For a hard top vehicle i.e. the entire top of the vehicle is solid there are some fittings that mount between the door pillar and roof that hold one of the mountings.

Best bet is to look around at other peoples vehicles and find the one that matches your setup and ask where they got it done and what parts are needed.
I might get some photos of some of the setups for series 3 landy's.... if I have the time.
 
Many thanks for your reply. I too have come across many variants - hence the original post. Every Series 3 I have looked at appears to have a different fit. I am happy now about the top bracket (belt holder) fitting. The brackets that fit 30 deg in the top forward corner of the hardtop seem to be the best approach. I'm looking now at the different reel types and how they fit the rear body assembly/floor. Any photos / part numbers you have of this area what be a gret help.

Ifitted MkII Polo (VW) beltsto SI for a friend- his was differentinthat it had a 'cage' but they fit, work and are cheap. visit a scrapyard andd they're CAF (cheap as f**k). I madeplates (well,local blacksmith ddidd) to anchor them on 'seatbox' but they fit elsewhere with a little ingenuity....
 
Many thanks for the reply. I've had much help and now ready to go. The belts themselves are not too much of the problem, more the anchor points. Best approach to me seems to be to fit the angle brackets at top for the belt holder and a do-it-yourself job for the reel attachment (as you suggest). The other two attachment points are as before.

Hi, I thought that too but when they are in place they feel real solid. The top brackets weren't home made, they came with the belts from a fellow subscriber - see attachment. They are readily available from LR S3 suppliers or eBay. I can take a photo of them fitted if you wish. Alan.

Just a minor word of warning. My III came with inertia belts with the reel fitted to the bulkhead between cab & load bay.

Probably not helped by having Astra GTE seats which have thicker bases than the III's originals, but on a long trip because of the reel being much lower than my shoulder it does become quite irritating/painful. Because of the height I'm also not sure what that would do to my spine in an accident either!

The origianl equipment inertial reel seat belts were designed to be fitted with the reels on brackets at the side behind the seats. These brackets tilt the reels at approx 37 deg from the vertical. Ordinary inertia reels are designed to mount with the reel horizontal and these will not work with the O.E. Land Rover mounting brackets so be careful! You need the all the land Rover OE brackets which are still available plus belts designed to work at this angle. I think they are still available but you may need to get genuine Land Rover ones.
