hi to all, i have a 4.6 rr p'reg 1996 P38 which i have done loads of upgrades ie l322 convo ect ect. Now as we all know they are very heavy on fuel! I have now just bought from D Hales salvage (delivered today) it's a y'reg 4.6 stolen recovered. It has a gas kit on it which i want to put on my other rr. I bought the car as a breaker really as i got no keys and the vin's have all been f##ked with and i got no doc's. Is there a way i can get the car running so i can see if the gas kit works. I dont want to go having to take it all off to put on my other rr as it might not work. any help would be cool thanks jon

if you can get the ignition on then you can look at the gas ecu with a laptop, it wont tell you much but it will tell you that the ecu is operating and everything else 'should' work as most of it is mechanical!

hi j the range thanks for replying, yes i do want a key for it mate but how do i get one ?as i dont know the original vin or vrm. It came to me with no plates, think some had ghosts plates on it( two the same ) not sure all i know is some one has made it very hard for me lol thanks jon

the only other way, really is with testbook etc, the actual key is pretty much irrelevant in your case its the coded fob you need, i'm not sure if the becm can be accessed without the ignition on but if i you can get it on then you can retrieve the correct key info(i think) and then from that you can get a key made up from dealer around 130 quid! your next issue is the physical key will need to fit the locks on the door and ignition if you intend to use em or sell em, now there is a person who will rebuild the locks for you to mathch the key. once you have done this you can then sell the becm and keys to recoup your losses!!! in the process of all that you will be able to start it and see if it works.

if you have someone come out to the becm get him to test everything electrical, that way you know what works and can sell those bits with confidence!
