hi, i am looking at changing the head gasket on my disco 1 v8 as it is losing pressure between cyl 1-3, but it is not losing water and the oil is ok, how hard is it to change and how long should it take to do. are there any tips on this.. where is the best place to get the parts from too.
thanks in advance for any replys.

hi mate,
did mine a while ago and it's not a bad job. if i recall the worst bit is having to take the alternator and power steering pump brackets off to get to one head bolt. why they had to build it like that i'll never know..
i got the gasket set from my local indie dealer.. £20 ish and borrowed a torque wrench. if i'd really tried i think i could have done it in a weekend easily.
hope this helps

Head gaskets - fairly easy job, can be done in a day if you are organised and have a roomy, clean garage/workshop. For the rest of us mere mortals I would say taking it steady it is an easy weekend job with a bit of time to spare assuming nothing breaks.

Do watch the exhaust manifold bolts - they snap and be very careful when applying torque to all bolts/fasteners. Aluminium threads and steel bolts are known to give rise to stripped threads and headaches. Make sure you have some thread lock and whether or not you use new head bolts is up to you.

Probably the best advice I would give is this - clean everything and don't rush.
