Help please

Hi everyone, I need some help with my defender 90 td5 lhd , engine running on once key has been removed, but if I put on wipers front or rear it turns off as normal, put new front wiper motor on yesterday as the last one started blowing fuses which I used it to stop engine, but still have same problem with new motor fitted but no longer blowing the fuse ... help please

This could be an earth problem. Not sure where earths are on td5 but worth a check.

The ignition seems fine all the dash lights & instruments turn off as normal, i have to touch wipers or washers to stop engine or if I take plug of the back of the altanator then turns of normally arrrrhhh

There is a problem with the alternator, I am thinking a diode in the control pack has failed allowing power to go the wrong way.
Switching the wipers on allows power to flow away from the solenoid stop switch on the pump deactivating it and stopping the engine but also over time damages the wiper motor as it has a permanent live for the park. [This is something of a guess as to what happens ]
Either way I recon new alternator will sort your problems.

Thanks, that’s my next job luckily I have 110 td5 to so I’ll just swap them over to make sure before ordering a new one , finger crossed
