hello all, am new on here i have freelander td4 gs 02 plate 72k miles.

the jeep on start up is blowing lot black smoke from behind the engine (drivers side) and out exhaust even smoke when driving. the jeep has been left for over a year and now i have funds fix it. i have checked all the hoses for splits but all seem fine. i have been told could be turbo as that area is blowing smoke but am stumped.

any help would be fantastic.

Goddam it . It's a land rover. A jeep is a Yankee motor.

As for your question.....is it using a lot of fluids?

There is a chance the fuel diaphragm has been tinkered with a bit too much.

Hi Mate, It sounds like it has had very little maintenance for some time,
I have just brought a Freelander myself and I have trawled the www to find out issues,
Please understand I am not a mechanic or someone with loads of knowledge,

But that said I would do all the servicing items first,,
1. Td4 to BMW PVC upgrade.(Crankcase Vent)
2. Clean, de-activate or preferably by-pass the EGR.
3. New turbo-vent filter.
4. Air Filter.
5. Engine oil and Filter.

Also check the manifolds condition and see if there are any holes..

These should help a little with the black smoke, and its much cheaper than throwing a Turbo at it..

Good luck and keep us posted...P.S the others are only jealous..;)
