My father purchased a RR Sport from new in Jan 2018. The car first prompted him for a service in Jan 2021. He then had the RR serviced at his local garage at the end of that month [the closest official Land Rover garage is over 40m away].

I purchased the car from my father July 2021. The following month the car was suffering from intermittent power loss in drive and in reverse [the car would judder and then stall]. I took it to an official LR garage in September 2021 and they diagnosed the issue was stemming from a solenoid, replaced it and said the issue was resolved. A few weeks later the issue returned but I didn’t notify the garage until Christmas time - the reason being it was only an intermittent issue so wasn’t occurring every day and these were a very very busy few months for me travelling with work and I couldn’t be without my car. A few days ago I booked it in with the same LR garage for them to take another look at the issue but on Monday I broke down on the M1. The dash said “engine oil critically low” and then the car konked out with no power at all and died completely. There were no warning lights before this and the car has recently had its MOT [the next service was due 17 Jan 2022]. The car has honestly been well looked after. If something needed doing it was done.

I had the RR towed back to the garage and they are now telling me the engine has seized up, its £15,000 min to replace and there is no option of goodwill due to lack of history in brand and incomplete service records. I spoke with my father again and he is certain the car never asked him for a service prior to Jan 2021. I also spoke with the garage who serviced it and he said they use all parts etc they should use for Land Rovers…

What do I do? Thank you.

That's the problem with modern vehicles as I found out with the BMW,no dipstick FFS. I ended up doing a oil and filter change so I could measure the amount of oil I put in as per capacity data. The electronic dipstick said it was fine but it was actually 1litre short of capacity:mad:

I suppose this is one of those modern cars where you cannot physically check the oil level?
Which engine does (did:rolleyes:) it have?
Yes on my vehicle you could and it was absolutely fine. It had actually just had its MOT about an hour before hand and it wouldn't have passed if it was low.

I’ve your dad brought the car in 2018 it should have had a service in 2019 surly especially I’ve brought from new and again in 2020 the dealer would have called to remind him of the service dates

So the LR garage said it should have been done at 2 years or 21,000 miles. It was during to pandemic though so maybe the dealer didn’t call??

How many miles has it done?
How many miles did you drive it between October and December knowing it wasn't happy?
!st service after 3 years, 2nd service due 1 year later, Something ain't right, unless your father only did a few thousand miles a year and you're doing lot's?

Hi. So my dad from 2018 to July 2021 did 33,000 and since I’ve had I’ve done 10,000. Total now is 43,000+. Do you think there’s a way the car’s computer will have a record of when it has asked for a service? My dad really wouldn’t lie about when the car was asking for a service.

I think every 2 years or 21,000 miles
Don't think. Know!
Welcome. If you're going yo argue with JLR about this, you need to know every little detail. If you say to them or anyone else , "I think", they have you for breakfast, spit you out and then have you for lunch.
Make sure your dad didn't miss a service request. Don't know about the newer ones, but on my L322 , you have to be quick to see the service due message.
Iam sure someone else posted something similar a couple of years ago. Maybe have a search see if they posted the outcome.
Good luck whichever way you go with it.
