Help needed

I have a 2016 Discovery Sport with 74k on the clock.
It’s been at my local dealership since August.
They say that the engine has run away and need replacing 14k cost to me as it was 3months out of warranty
JLR say the engine can be repaired and will contribute 50%
Hoopers agree with the dealership
This is an approved vehicle serviced and maintained by the dealer so how do I need a new engine at 74k?
There is apparently a class action going on in America for the evoque and discovery sport turbo failure
Anyone else have a similar story or any advice on how to get the costs covered
I’m out of pocket £4K in car hire costs while this is going on

Welcome to lz, 14k yup thats a dealer price for you, you can get a a re-con engine for under 5k
with a years warranty, its well known for these engines to fail with snapped crankshafts.

This will give you some info on what im assuming had happened to yours.

He's got a disco sport so not using the Tdv6 engine.

Engines can fail at any mileage. LR have a number of known engine problems which are well discussed on the web, across some of their vehicles. If it happens out of warranty and you have been a loyal customer to LR products then a 50% discount on the cost of repair is the typical offer they give. I don't understand why it's taken several months to realise the engine needs replaced. The main dealer will normally find a problem and advise the owner. If it's out of warranty they can put in a claim to LR. That doesn't take months to come back with an answer. They may want to know more about the vehicle or send one of their own engineers to have a look at it. But still not months. You don't really have much choice. If it needs a new engine then follow the main dealer route or take the risk on the open market. Class actions in Merka don't work the same way in the uk. You could have a look on the disco sport forum where a number have also needed engines replaced. Lots of discussions as to why they failed. Be warned... they love to hate the disco sport so it can be difficult to read.

Sounds about right. Unless you can persuade them otherwise 50% seems fair.
One piece of advice I will give is : stop hiring a car!!
Even if you win on the engine you'll never get hire costs back. It would be reasonable for them to say , you could have bought a car with the amount you have laid out on hires. Or you could have hired a compact at £1k for 2 months rather than prestige It all about what a reasonable person would do.
In fact you vould have paid for a lawyer to advise you and bought a car for the money you have laid out so far on hire.

The early evoque had the same peugeot diesel as the magnificent Freelander 2. The evoque then moved to the ingenium engine. The disco sport only had ingenium engines. They're LR in house designed and built. Powerful with a reduced size.
