Help needed

I have bought some 2" lift shackles for my series 3 SWB and today I attempted to fit them. I managed to get the nuts undone but couldn't get the bolts to turn or knock out.
An I being silly here? Are the bolts part if the shackle? If so then I will need to get some more bolts. If this is the case then do I justly hit the hell out of the bolts to push them out?
Really needed to fit the shackles today as have new 265/75 R16 wheels and tyres coming next week and I don't think they are gonna fit without the shackles being fitted first.
I called my local Landy garage and they told me it would cost £55 to fit them!
Please help. All advice and guadance greatly appreciated.

I thought the nuts were just for locking? The bolts are also screwed thru the shackle??

The shackles are threaded so once you've got the nuts off you need to unscrew the bolt from the shackle,if your lucky they will crack free and come out but normaly the bolts are siezed into the bushes so you have to cut the bolts off and fit new bolts and bushes,plenty of wd40 soaked overnight should do the trick.

Thanks for the responses. So the shackles are threaded. I tried to move them but they are solid. The nuts came off no problem.
Bit worries now as if the bolts won't break free then I'm buggered unless I cut the heads off and drill them out which is a massive job.
Would a air driver wheel but gun work. I could go to my local tyre place and get them to try.

you'll need more than WD40 - a bet they've rusted to the bush insert, the bush rubber stops them pulling out - prepare to have to burn the bolts out out of the bushes, be careful as the fumes given off aren't good for you

Try soaking them with diesel, it is 100 times better than WD40. To crack them off, hit the spanner with a heavy hammer with a sharp blow as the rubber will twist in the bush.

If it's that corroded in you'll probably bugger the bush removing the bolt. Bite the bullet, cut off the shackles, cut off the bolt head, hammer off the end of the shackle and you might be left with enough bolt to hammer it loose of the bush. Careful not to mushroom off the bolt head or it won't go through. If the bush breaks up in the process (or the bolt won't move) drill through the rubber round the bush, knock out the middle, saw through the outer bush casing carefully until it will knock out with a chisel and fit a new bush. It's a fun filled afternoon's work on a summer's day. It'll be a bugger if you're doing it outside at this time of year!

Bugger. All I want to do is raise the old girl ups so I can fit some big boots.
Might pay the£55 and have it done for me. A cop outbut it'll cost me as much in tools and time.

You might as well bite the bullet and get the tools for the job that you haven,t got.
They are pretty bog-standard ones and owning a Landie you WILL be needing them again at some point

Bet you the garage buggers the bushes anyway and charges you £200+ to sort the problem.

I'd have gladly paid someone £200 to change some of the bastid series bushes I've had to do over the years - must be near top of the worst jobs to do on a series

Hadn't thought about that but I guess if I'm going to all that hassle, wouldn't it be better to throw a new set of bushes in.

Hell. All I want is to raise the old girl up a couple of inches to fit a set of big boots on.

put it to the garage, if you can find one that'll do it - you might be disappointed how long they take - isn't there a well equipped local who could help ?

There's a think called a bushwaka that removes the bushes - but it's nearly £200! You can make one out of a scissor jack if you've got the time....

£235 plus tax, polybush do one - and they don't always work - more often it's gas axe and a hacksaw blade to split the bush and rubber, then drift it all out
