I'm a happy owner of a 96 110 TDI 300 in green. It's my 2nd Defender. The first was a bit of a mess but that's another story. We have been getting this one worked on by a local garage that seem ok but not Land Rover experts. We are located in Sydenham, Crystal Palace South London.

Couple of questions?

Since the garage replace the alternator the belt has been whining. I'm not super clever with car machanics but that seems to indicate to me that the belt is slipping. I don't understand why they haven't been able to fix it? Can't be too difficult surely. I tempted to try myself but as I said my skill level isn't high. During the last MOT we had to have the left front diff sorted. I think it was serviced and new seals? The right needs doing to. Can anybody recommend somebody in the area that is honest and good that doesn't cost a fortunate to work on our car?

We also have a very good full roof rack for sale if anybody is interested. We took it off because we use the car on the motorway a bit and for me it creates too much drag. Plus a rear step that we haven't used.

I will try to post some pictures in the for sales sectons.

Fraid I don't know anyone in your area that can do work for you. I imagine it was the swivel housings that were done before but strange they only did one side as usually it's a job you do in pairs as when one goes the other is not far behind. Tightening the alternator belt is easy. Can be easier with 2 people one to pull the alternator up tight on the belt and the other to re tighten but can be done on your own. Might be interested in your step let me know how much you want with postage and stick a pic on.

I`m not aware of any independent specialists in South London, you might have to go out a bit further.I`ve genuinely never seen any specialists advertising in your neck of the woods
Not wishing to malign your local garage but after owning a few LandRover products and using both specialists and local garages there is an awful lot to be said for using a good specialist, particularly at MOT time.
I use Harris Mayes Country cars in Rickmansworth and have used others local to me in SW Herts/NW London. Harris Mayes do courtesy cars as well so might be worth considering ? I`m not connected with them in any way except as a satisfied customer, but they do seem to draw a bit of custom from London as well as Bucks/Herts/Middx, and Peter Harris Mayes has forgotten more about LandRovers than I`ll ever know = 01923 711800 if that helps

Could you please translate that lot into understandable English? Oh, and use correct grammar and punctuation, please. Or is the above supposed to be Essex-speak for something?:eek:

What DFNL is an 'Iphone'?? I'm just an old gimmer who uses telephones to talk to people!! Isn't that what they are designed to be used for??:D

Writing on a telephone  That was illegal in my day!!

When my mobile makes a ringing sound, I answer it by saying, "Hello ..." Funnily enough, the person at the other end generally responds by saying, "Hello ..." and then we have a conversation!

Quite easy you know, and would you believe that you can get used to talking with people!! ;) ;)
